Start with a controller if you have one. The Steam listing explicitly recommends a controller and lists full controller support, including Xbox and PlayStation controller categories. That is the clearest verified input recommendation available before release.
It does not establish that keyboard and mouse are unusable or require you to buy a new controller. As of October 23, 2026, a complete keyboard layout and a finished-game comparison of both input methods remain unverified.
Choose around the controls you can use comfortably
Combat combines attack strings, timed guard responses, dodges, main-weapon switching, and secondary weapons. A useful layout keeps those actions reachable without making you stop watching the opponent.

Check which input prompts your own game displays; this does not compare device performance.
For a controller player, the store's support listing makes using an existing supported pad a sensible starting point. For a keyboard-and-mouse player, the unresolved questions are the actual default bindings, available rebinding options, and how comfortably you can reach several combat actions during movement.
Check these points in the release build
- Can you trigger guard, dodge, and weapon switching without awkward hand movement?
- Do the displayed prompts match the device you are using?
- Can you adjust the bindings or camera behavior you need?
- Does the layout remain comfortable during a longer fight?
These are checks to perform, not a claim that each setting has already been confirmed. A controller support badge also does not guarantee every advanced feature on every connection method. In particular, PS5 adaptive-trigger and haptic descriptions should not automatically be transferred to every PC controller setup.
Use the developer recommendation as a starting choice, then judge the actual layout. Neither input method has a confirmed damage or timing advantage.
